CDTV "Phase 2"

The CDTV "Phase 2" is an unreleased, cost reduced version of the original CDTV (model CD1000).
It is a continuation of the original CD1000 hardware by designer Don Gilbreath and was developed in parallel with the CDTV II (model CD500), which was developed by a different group of engineers lead by Jeff Porter (Commodore's own West Chester engineering team). Both teams were vying to deliver a cost reduced CDTV model, because the CD1000 was very expensive to manufacture.

Around mid-1991 Commodore management selected the CD500 West Chester design as the more promising approach and the CDTV Phase 2 project was cancelled. Just a couple of months later, CD500 was also cancelled by Commodore CEO Mehdi Ali.

The CDTV Phase 2 boards were produced only in limited quantities.
